Active Aging

How can AI technologies be employed to promote healthier, more active lifestyles across the life span? Our research aims to enhance individuals’ cognitive, emotional, and physical well-being, while also supporting social participation that enables independent, connected, and fulfilling lives. We further address ways to mitigate underlying ageism in the application of AI for older adults.

Human-AI & Robot Interaction

A human-centered approach to AI and robotic design is essential for developing socially responsive technologies. We investigate strategies for creating human-friendly verbal and nonverbal interactions, fostering user trust, and enhancing positive user experiences from a psychological perspective.

Empathy & Emotion

How can AI be designed to embody empathy, and in what ways can it be utilized to assess and cultivate human empathic capacities? Our work focuses on developing empathetic AI systems capable of analyzing and interpreting mental states, while also providing interventions to foster empathy in human interaction.

Applied Cognition

To fully leverage the potential of technology, it is crucial to understand how individuals perceive and experience it, and how these effects differ across contexts. Our lab conducts diverse studies that explore human-technology interaction through the lens of cognitive psychology and cognitive science.
