Human-Robot Interaction

How do humanoid robots function and interact with humans? When it comes to having a robot that resembles us, people have a variety of expectations not only for the appearance of the robot but also for the way of talking, walking, thinking, and feeling. In our lab, we use humanoid robots to investigate natural language interactions, gesture interfaces, and human-machine empathy.

Smart Aging

Smart aging is an emerging research topic to support the well-being of an aging population. Our research focuses on understanding cognitive and neural plasticity across the lifespan and improving people’s use of modern technology.

Human-Vehicle Interaction

We will soon live in a smart city where every location we visit will be shared with other drivers and even see a car that has no driver. We aim to study what makes a safe interaction between pedestrians and self-driving cars along withboth individual and cultural differences intent communication.

Affective Modeling

From image recognition to natural language processing, we are living in a plethora of state-of-the-art technologies to analyze human emotions. We aim to integrate the data from these technologies and psychological theories of emotion to make AIs and robots emotionally intelligent.
