Human-Robot Interaction

How do humanoid robots function and interact with humans? When it comes to having a robot that resembles us, people have a variety of expectations not only for the appearance of the robot but also for the way of talking, walking, thinking, and feeling. In our lab, we use humanoid robots to investigate natural language interactions, gesture interfaces, and human-machine empathy.

Smart Aging

Smart aging is an emerging research topic to support the well-being of an aging population. Our research focuses on understanding cognitive and neural plasticity across the lifespan and improving people’s use of modern technology.

Human-Vehicle Interaction

We will soon live in a smart city where every location we visit will be shared with other drivers and even see a car that has no driver. We aim to study what makes a safe interaction between pedestrians and self-driving cars along withboth individual and cultural differences intent communication.

Affective Modeling

From image recognition to natural language processing, we are living in a plethora of state-of-the-art technologies to analyze human emotions. We aim to integrate the data from these technologies and psychological theories of emotion to make AIs and robots emotionally intelligent.

  About Us

With robots becoming an essential part of our lives, it is becoming evermore important to understand how humans psychologically deal with such intelligence. Especially the advent of "Social Robots" presents more emphasis on the matter. With research on the topic of HRI we aim to investigate efficient ways to implement robot technologies to our daily lives.
In recent years our attention to human emotion has grown and it became an important factor when desgning products and services. In our lab, we investigate different aspects of emotion and cognition, such as the influence of emotion on attention, affective evaluation, visual and auditory processing, etc.
The graying of populations is a general trend across the globe. As it is speculated that by 2050, majority of our society are to be older than 50, human-technology interface clearly should incorporate the needs of older users. In our lab, our research focuses on physical, perceptual, and cognitive aspects of aging that is relevent to interface design.
User experience(UX) is a concept that is gaining more importance every year. It is no coincidence that every major manufacturing compaines have their own seperate UX design team to make their products more user friendly. As Emotion plays a significant role in interaction with products, it is essential to thoroughly investigate the psychological details of this interaction.
