Description :
Hfpsych lab members presented their work in a prestigious cognitive science conference, [Cogsci] (Annual Meeting of Cognitive Science Society) from 26th to 29th, July 2021.
Yoon Kyung Lee (PhD student) presented “Building a Psychological Ground Truth Dataset with Empathy and Theory-of-Mind During the COVID-19 Pandemic” (poster).
Yoonwon Jung (MA student) presented “Web-scraping the Expression of Loneliness during COVID-19” (poster).
Jae-eun Park (MA student) presented “Racial Bias in Emotion Inference: An Experimental Study Using a Word Embedding Method.” (poster).
The conference took place virtually via Underline, Zoom, and Gather.Town. Interactions in Gather.Town created more ‘physical’ interactions (e.g., approaching somebody to chat, roaming around in an event hall, and sitting down for chat).
Our members shared more detailed stories:
“It was a fun experience to be able to listen to the presentations and talk with researchers from around the world, despite the limitations imposed by the current pandemic situation. What surprised me was the poster sessions at the Gather Town platform – being able to chat freely with anyone nearby, it was very easy for us to a) answer questions from those who watched the poster presentations beforehand and discuss further, or b) just walk up to any posters that spark our interest and talk with the presenter. I liked that I had an opportunity to have one-on-one conversations with those interested in my poster, despite the conference being virtual. This function surely provided a livelier atmosphere to the conference!” - Jae Eun
“Cogsci2021 was my first conference where I presented my research and therefore had opportunities to place my research in a worldwide research trend of my area of interest, which I found very amusing. ‘Neural & Computational Approaches to Affective Cognition’ session from ‘Interdisciplinary Advances in Affective Cognition Workshop’ was particularly inspiring for me in hearing how the researchers used interdisciplinary approaches while maintaining strong psychological ground!” - Yoonwon
