Lab members and Prof. Desmond Ong (organizer of CogSci 2023; U of Texas at Austin)
Lab members at the poster session in CogSci 2023, held in Sydney, Australia. This time, we participated in the conference. We held a virtual meet-up in Seoul (MeetupPage)for those who couldn't attend and visited the conference in-person. Hfpsych lab members (Seoyeon Bae), (Yoon-Kyung Lee) presented their work in a prestigious cognitive science conference, [Cogsci] (Annual Meeting of Cognitive Science Society) from 26th to 29th, July 2023.

Seoyeon Bae (M.A. student) presented "Friendly-Bot: The Impact of Chatbot Appearance and Relationship Style on User Trust" in person on behalf of the authors. (poster).

Yoon-Kyung Lee (Ph.D. student) presented “A Portrait of Emotion : Empowering Self-Expression through AI-Generated Art” (poster).

CogSci 2023 was held as the form of hybrid conference. The conference took place in Sydney, Australia. The posters were broadcasted through Underline for online participants.

Our members shared more detailed stories:
"CogSci 2023 was my second in-person conference to give poster presentations. As the main theme of the conference was artificial intelligence, I was able to listen to talks of famous AI authorities and they inspired me a lot in deciding my future career. Plus, Sydney was such a wonderful city and I wish to visit Sydney again in the near future. I hope to participate in the next conference which is planned to be held in Rotterdam, Netherlands." - Seoyeon Bae

"At the CogSci conference, we presented our work, 'A Portrait of Emotion: Empowering Self-Expression through AI-Generated Art', which focuses on 1. evaluating generative model's ability to understand the user's emotion and intention from prompt, and 2. how creative the outputs (AI art) are perceived depending on the content of the text prompt . In addition, the workshop on Large Language Models (LLM) left a strong impression on me. It was fascinating to see renowned scholars passionately debate whether to view this generative model as a new form of intelligence or just a data-producing algorithm. Also, prior to the conference, we held a local meetup in Seoul(https://sites.google.com/snu.ac.kr/cogsci2023-seoul-meetup/) and many local cognitive science researchers gathered to engage in heated discussions and Q&A. It was a valuable time for the presenters as well; For the presenters, especially for junior researchers presenting for the first time at the conference, it was an even better opportunity to practice academic exchange." - Yoon-Kyung Lee

"CogSci 2023 was the second academic conference I visited. I was impressed by the scale of conference, and at the same time watching many creative studies from all around the world became a valuable time for me to broaden my horizons. From this experience, I could learn and feel that there are a lot of topics that can be discovered and studied. I hoped that I could visit future conference with my own study that can inspire others as I was from CogSci 2023."- Yong-Ha Park
